      FAQ's for
        the Vehicle Tilter

        1. Q. How does The Vehicle Tilter operate?
        A. The Vehicle Tilter is essentially a cradle that allows the vehicle
to be rolled from a fully horizontal position (normal) onto its side and
back again to normal through the use of a drill-operated jacking screw
        assembly.
      2. Q. How much time does it take to prepare the vehicle and to conduct
        the "tilting" operation?
        A. The entire operation is actually quite simple and should take only
about 15 minutes to remove three of the wheels, attach the Tilter assembly
and raise / support in the desired position.
      3. Q. How far will The Vehicle Tilter actually tilt the vehicle?
        A. The vehicle may be tilted to a full 90 degrees, permitting full virtually
unobstructed access to the underside of the vehicle.
      4. Q. Can you describe the product construction?
        A. The Vehicle Tilter is a quality product of Germany. The rocker assemblies
are fully galvanized to prevent rust and corrosion. The jacking assembly
uses an enclosed "Acme thread" screw for maximum durability.
The rockers and jacking assembly disassemble for easy storage when the
        device is not in use.
      5. Q. How much weight will it hold?
        A. Up to 6,800 lbs. That more than enough capacity for most cars, SUV's
        and light trucks.
      6. Q. Are there specific vehicle size limitations pertaining to The Vehicle
        Tilter?
        A. Because there are two separate cradles used with The Vehicle Tilter,
there is no specific limit to the vehicle length. Most passenger cars
and light trucks may be tilted to a full 90 degrees safely, however those
"top heavy" vehicles (certain SUV's and vans mostly) where the
vehicle height exceeds the width, should only be tilted to a maximum of
        80 degrees.
      7. Q. What other tools and equipment might I need to use The Vehicle
        Tilter safely and effectively?
        A. The vehicle will need to be raised and supported in order to remove
the wheels and install The Vehicle Tilter. A floor jack and jack stands
will be needed. A power drill (3/8"-1/2" 5.5 amp minimum at
1,200 RPM) is required to raise and lower the vehicle. For safety sake,
a fire extinguisher should always be keep on hand when lifting, lowering
and working on the application vehicle.
      8. Q. How much extra space do I need in order to use The Vehicle Tilter?
        A. While only an area as wide as the height of the vehicle is actually
required to be open on the side into which the vehicle will be tilted,
it is recommended to allow for one full vehicle width. This will ensure
        complete access to the vehicle.
      9. Q. How does The Vehicle Tilter attach to the vehicle and is there
a risk of damaging the vehicle because of how it attaches?
        A. This is probably the most commonly asked question due to the somewhat
unique way that The Vehicle Tilter attaches to the vehicle. The cradles
attach directly to the wheel hubs using the existing wheels' lugs. The
tilting operation is gradual and gentle, thereby not subjecting the suspension
components to sudden unnatural loads that might otherwise be harmful.
The lateral and shock loads that the suspension will encounter during
normal cornering and braking actually place much greater momentary load
on the components than the tilting process. Naturally, you'll need to
inspect the vehicle prior to tilting to ensure that the suspension and
attaching points are mechanically sound. A thorough pre-inspection is
good insurance to preventing damage to the host vehicle.
      10. Q. What fluids and other components need to be removed or secured
        prior to the tilting operation?
        A. Remove the vehicle battery to avoid acid spillage and the possibility
of electrical shorting should the battery detach from its mount. Remove
fuel from the gas tank, fuel lines and where applicable the carburetor
float bowl. Although not always necessary, remove the engine oil and tape
off the dipstick tube, breather and filler cap. Either empty the windshield
washer reservoir or tape it off to prevent leakage. Other fluids such
as brake, hydraulic clutch, transmission and differential may remain in
place. Secure any loose items in the vehicle interior and trunk.
      11. Q. Can you describe the setup and operation of The Vehicle Tilter?
        A. In an abbreviated form, the basic steps begin with preparing the vehicle
as described above in question (10). From there, raise the side of the
vehicle that is to remain down about 16" and remove both wheels from
that side. Next, attach the tilter mounting flanges to the wheel lugs
and reattach the wheel nuts. Position the longer of the two Vehicle Tilter
rocker assemblies on the engine side of the vehicle, assemble the linkages
and attach the other end of the rocker assembly to the wheel hub on the
opposite side of the vehicle. With the 1st rocker installed, attach the
other rocker assembly to the other wheel hub on the side of the vehicle
that will face down. Now that both rockers are installed, simply lower
the jack until the rockers rest on the floor, then place the vehicle in
neutral and release the brake to center the rockers. Remove the jack,
install the safety pin and position the flange to the engine end wheel
on the side to be lifted. Install the lifting screw and remove the floor
jack. Using an electric drill, engage the lifting screw and raise the
vehicle incrementally, checking often for fluid leaks or any structural
problems like tearing suspension mounts or signs of frame or subframe
failure. Inspect clearances around vehicle as you continue to tilt vehicle
to a full 90 degrees (80 degrees for tall vehicles). Finally, position
a jack stand under the crossbar of each rocker and you're ready to go
to work! Lowering the vehicle when you're completed is an equally simple
        matter.

        12. Q. Has The Vehicle Tilter been tested for safety?
        A. Yes, The Vehicle Tilter has passed all German safety standards including
        the rigorous T?V.
      13. Q. Does The Vehicle Tilter need to be permanently installed and how
        bulky is it?
        A. No. One of the best features of The Vehicle Tilter is that it completely
portable and is not fastened to the floor during use. At only 137 lbs.
and given the fact it disassembles for storage, The Vehicle Tilter is
very easy to handle and store.
      14. Q. Does The Vehicle Tilter require periodic maintenance, and if so
        what?
        A. The only periodic maintenance required is to occasionally lubricate
the jacking screw with a little Lubriplate® or equivalent lubricant.
      15. Q. What hub configurations will the basic Vehicle Tilter fit?
        A. The wheel adapters provided with The Vehicle Tilter will fit wheel
hubs with either four or five lugs.
      16. Q. Are there adapters for special applications?
        A. Yes, there are special adapters available for wire wheel splined hub
applications, six-lug and eight lug applications, as well as special adapters
that may be welded to the body of the vehicle when the axles/hubs have
        been removed.
      17. Q. How is The Vehicle Tilter shipped?
        A. The Vehicle Tilter is shipped in two boxes, a heavier flat one measuring
        8" x 24" x 60" and a longer lightweight one measuring 6"
        x 10" x 80"
