Book Description:

Book Description Catalogs and magazines are featuring crocheted fashions in their latest issues. This book's designs allow readers to create these styles at home. It includes 24 beautiful designs with full instructions for jackets, pullovers, vests, and cardigans - for beginners and experts alike. Praise for the author's A Close Knit Family: "These patterns are a delight for knitters of all skill levels." - Threads magazine

This book is top notch!, -- It is a pity that the sneak peak inside this book doesn't show you the best it has to offer because it is filled with some of the most gorgeous sweater and cardigan crochet designs that I have ever seen. The aran sweaters on the back cover are absolutely gorgeous. The small pic really doesn't do them justice. The cabled aran does a great job of showing off Melissa Leapman's design genius and no longer makes me envious of knitted cable arans. If you are looking for spring and summer sweaters, you will not be disappointed. There are many gorgeous ones here as many designs use the lighter DK and sportweight yarns. As I expected from Melissa Leapman, the instructions are very thorough. Every pattern comes with a diagram with the measurements noted. I find this extremely useful as proper fit is essential to the success of any garment. I personally tend to not meet the right guage height requirements when my width is perfect so the charts really help me to make the proper modifications. Speaking of fit, nearly every sweater featured in this book has inset sleeves which not only make a better looking garment but a more comfortable fitting one as well. In addition to the instructions, there are several tip tidbits to be found amongst the patterns throughout the book such as alternate design/color suggestions and tips for a more professional finishing. The yarns used are all fairly easy to find or easy to substitute with another yarn. The sizes range from S-XL but there are quite a few designs that will go up to 2X as the bust measurements go up to 54 inches on some designs. If you only want one crocheted sweater pattern book in your collection, "Crochet With Style" should be your first pick. Beautiful pieces of art! -- The garments in this book are so colorful and well designed you will feel as if you are looking at paintings. A majority of the yarns are available almost anywhere, but they way the are blended makes them seem extraordinary. The author's instructions and hints offered on each page are also very useful. Worth the money!

Yippee Skippe Crochet sweaters -- Beautiful patterns and every single time I make a pattern from this book I learn something else that I did not allready know. Patterns cover all the seasons, well worth adding to your crochet library. An Okay Book -- I know most people like this book, but I really didn't. The sweaters were very plain, like ones you can find most anywhere. Also, you can tell the author is a knitter at heart by the way some of her sweaters look--crochet makes a tighter, and therefore stiffer, fabric than knitting does so when a tight pattern is used a fluid yarn must be used, such as one with rayon. She used acrylic for these types and the sweaters seem to "pucker" as seen in the photos. There is one sweater that I love that I am going to make, it is an openwork pullover with a johnny collar in white and it is gorgeous. However, the other 24 just don't float my boat. Absolutely Beautiful!!!! -- I just got my copy today. I bought it because of the unanimous praise of the styles in this book. I've recently started knitting again after having dropped it the last time it "went out of fashion" which was quite a while ago, and I started practicing crochet in anticipation of receiving this book. I'm not disappointed. I've always thought knitting more sophisticated than crochet but designers such as Melissa Leapman prove me wrong. The styles are fresh and feminine and classic in a contemporary way. I'm looking forward to getting started. Highly recommended.

Reviews:

Great Book -- This book is great for the crocheter lover. As I am a big fan of apparel crochet patterns. This book has fun and original patterns. I do not recommend this book if you are a beginner but it is definitely a must-have book for future projects. Best book of crochet sweaters -- I have a large collection of crochet books and when it comes to sweaters this is one of the very best. Patterns are easy to read and follow. All of the yarn or thread is readily available or easy to substitute. Great for the beginner and exerienced alike.

It actually deserves 20 stars! -- I love Melissa Leapman's sweater designs; they are not too difficult, 99% of the patterns use yarn or thread that is easily obtainable or easily substituted for. One feature I really like about Melissa's patterns is that the sleeves are frequently set in; this gives you a much nicer fit, more finished look, and makes all the work worthwhile. I really enjoy making sweaters, and Melissa Leapman's books are definitely top of the line for sweater makers. The best crochet book ON EARTH! -- If I could own only one crochet pattern book, Crochet With Style would be it! Ms. Leapman delivers great-looking sweaters (including some which even look knitted), easy-to-read (and to use) patterns, and beautiful photographs. Now I have lots of terrific sweaters on my to-do list and I can hardly wait to make them all! The crochet world has been sorely lacking good sweater patterns---until now. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Terrific sweater book! -- This book is definitely a must have for crocheters who want to learn how to make sweaters. There are so many to choose from, there should be at least one for everyone. I do think a beginning crocheter might have some problems. This is a great book for at least an advanced beginner. Besides the great patterns, what I really love about this book is that most of the designs use yarns that are easily available and responsibly priced. It's one of my favorite crochet books! REALLY Terrific sweater book!, -- This is the best crochet book I own and I have dozens of them. This book doesn't just give you the basics, but the sweaters are gorgeous. I never thought I'd find so many items I wanted to make all in one book. It has everything from vests to a nice fisherman's sweater. The great thing is that all the yarns listed for the patterns are not only readily available, but also reasonably priced. She uses everything from Red Heart Lustersheen to Plymouth and Lion Brand yarns. Wonderful book for both new and experienced crocheters. Bev Crochet with Style: 24 Fun to Make and Easy to Wear Sweaters -- This book have great sweaters and vest for year-round comfort. The yarns used are readily available to everyone. If the yarn is not available in your area, Melissa has a Resource Page listing the manufacturers, mail order sources, and instructional references. The Crochet Guild of America's address is also listed if you're interested in receiving more info about the guild. The garments finished meas. are from 38"-48". Melissa a few designs with finished meas. to 52". Schematic drawings are included and she has helpful hints and tips throughout her book. I rate this book right up there with "Mosiac Afghan" by Lily Chin, "Crochet Your Way" by Gloria Tracy and Susan Levin, and "Glorious Sweaters" by Nola Theiss. All of these books have introduced a much needed "New" look to crochet.

Sweaters for everyone you love -- If you're like most knitters, you create garments for someone else -- usually a family member. With this beautiful collection of sweaters from knitwear designer Melissa Leapman, you will find projects to delight everyone on your gift list. Each chapter has a basic design that has been interpreted into different sweaters for adults and children. Instead of taking one sweater and changing the size, Leapman has created practical and different designs from a similar theme for each family member. By not merely reworking the same sweater in many different sizes, these projects will keep even the most prolific knitter engaged. The sweaters range in difficulty from easy to advanced, so every knitter will find a wide range of interesting projects. Each sweater has complete, easy-to-follow instructions. b>"Melissa Leapman's A Close-Knit Family is a wonderful collection featuring very wearable knits that fit so well into our modern, casual lifestyle. Designs for men, women, and children are all beautifully themed, and the variety of techniques presented are a treat to tempt knitters of all persuasions." -- Trisha Malcolm, editor in chief, Vogue Knitting and Family Circle Easy Knitting
