Superb guide on the art of trim carpentry -- An outstanding book for anyone interested in trim carpentry from the novice to the more experienced carpenter! Very thorough, yet easy to understand dicussions of each aspect of trim carpentry with excellent illustrations to accompany the text. As an experienced do-it-your-selfer with quite a bit of woodworking experience, this book was a delight to read and use. Highly recommended!

Excellent Book For Base, Crown and Other Moldings -- Very good book for baseboard, crown, door and window moldings. It has tons of pictures and illustrations. On the top of the cover of the book it says: "For Pros/ By Pros". I would agree with this assesment; but it is easy enough for a handyman type with little molding experience like me to follow also. After looking through this book, I was tearing out old molding with abondon and the confidence that I could do a good job of getting nice new stuff back in.

Too complex for a novice -- I am currently in the middle of a massive remodeling project in my house. I bought this book to learn some simple techniques for installing the molding that was so easy to rip out, but is a pain to put back in. I read the book from cover to cover and I found that the book lacked on illustrations/pictures. Most of the explanations are only given in paragraph form, and was hard to follow for me. This is the only do it yourself book that I regret buying from Amazon!

Review of a great carpentry book -- This is a great book, i remember back when, when my dad was writing this book, he was the greatest trip carpenter in california and idaho.

With Craig Savage
Demonstrating professional trim techniques
In too many houses, the trimwork--door and window casings, baseboard and crown moldings -- is an afterthought, rushed along by builders ready to move out or owners anxious to move in. But finish carpenter Craig Savage thinks that the most visible parts of your house -- the details that you and everyone else see every day -- should get the attention they deserve.
In this tape, designed for pros and home owners alike, Savage guides you step by step as he trims out parts of a house and shares his job-site savvy and secrets. You'll learn to mate pieces of trim precisely, negotiate unsquare openings and seat moldings solidly against bumpy walls and ceilings.
Savage starts with the basics. With the camera beside him and close up the whole way, he demonstrates how you can accurately cut the three basic joints: the butt, miter and cope. You'll also learn how to:
. extend window and door jambs
. fit casing around doors and windows
. scribe-fit baseboard along a wall
. cope crown molding so it stays tight
Page numbers on the screen refer to Savage's book, Trim Carpentry Techniques, where you'll find a full discussion of the techniques shown here, Craig Savage is a general contractor in Palm Desert, California. He is a regular contributor to Fine Homebuilding magazine.

Installing doors, windows, base, and crown
Once a home's framing and drywall are done, it's time for the trimwork -- the door and window casings and baseboard and crown moldings that give each interior its distinctive character. In Trim Carpentry Techniques, trim carpenter Craig Savage gives practical advice for hanging doors, setting windows, buying, making and installing molding, selecting tools and finishing trim with paint or varnish.

Savage also gives real solutions to everyday problems, such as what to do when walls are out of plumb or floors are out of level. And to help you get started, there is a photo gallery of inspiring examples of the trim carpenter's art. (Companion video, Installing Trim, available.)

"A handy refresher for the journeyman, explicit help for the do-it-yourselfer, and a must for the framing carpenter..."
