Making Picture Frames
with Stuart Altschuler
Get the look you want while saving money
Why and when would you want to make your own picture frame? Stuart Altschuler, master gilder, framer and teacher, starts this video with some answers: when you want complete control over the material and design and when you want the frame to cost practically nothing.
Picture frames are basically moldings that just happen to be mitered into rectangles. You'll learn how to mill your own moldings on the router table and how to make more complex moldings with a special cutter on the table saw. The other great framing technique is the miter joint, which Altschuler shows you how to cut in three different ways. You'll also learn how to make special frames: two-sided frames for stained glass, and deep "object boxes" that frame things like your prized catcher's mitt or baby's shoes.
