Beading with Scratch Stock, Moulding Plane & Router
with Garrett Hack
Decorative methods to soften furniture edges
"Beading" is a decorative way to soften the edges of furniture, saving corners from "dings" and saving people from sharp corners. Garrett Hack shows you how to produce beading with the three kinds of tools named in the title.
You'll learn how to soften, grind to shape, and sharpen metal from old bandsaw or jigsaw blades; then how to make a handle for the scratch-stock, and how to use it.
Moulding planes are wonderful tools for making short runs of straight beading. They're also cheap and surprisingly easy to use, although most novices are put off by the prospect of sharpening blades with complex profiles. Hack shows that everything about these tools is easy to manage.
The video ends in a flurry of wood dust from the router, the fastest way to do long runs of beading.
