From the Manufacturer Save time and labor on the job site with the Fat Max tape measure. With easy-to-read graphics and a Mylar-coated blade for added durability, the Fat Max features an 11-foot continuous blade extension that won't break or crease. Ergonomically designed with a rugged dual-material casing, the tape measure is easy to hold and control. The heavy spring provides smooth-as-silk blade recoil and longer life while a thick bumper in the bottom of the tape protects the blade hook from recoil damage.

Great for me, but maybe not for everyone -- I love this tape measure. I haven't quite been able to get an 11' standout, but I have hit 10' on a regular basis. The tape is thick and stiff and very readable. The rubber and plastic case is easy to hold on to, even when it's covered in dust or when your hands are sweaty. I also use the bottom and top hook feature more than I thought I would. It definitely is bulky, and you probably won't want to carry it with you at all times, but that's fine with me. But my wife, who has smaller hands than I do, finds this tape measure difficult to hold onto because it's so big. That's the only drawback I can think of.

Reviews:

As almost everyone said, the best...but not to belabor the point, but the tape is great! If you are looking for a tape with a great standout, (11 feet I think is a bit of an exageration, maybe up on Mt. Everest where the air doesn't weigh as much) easy to read tape, and good heft in your hand then this is it.
Here comes the but... if you are going to be measuring things where 1/16th of an inch makes a difference, the wide tape that's easy to read makes it tough to get it perfect.
So here is the recommendation, if you are only getting one, and you are only doing framing, sheetrock, rough measuring you've got your man. If you are going to be doing finish work, trim, etc spend a little less and get the Stanely 33-599 25' contractor grade tape. Easier to get the last nit measured.

Durable, well made tool -- I wish to note the exceptional durability of this tool. The Stanley Fat Max has a remarkable ability to survive falls. I have dropped this tape many times from up to 24 feet. Other than minor cosmetic blemishes, I find no visible damage to the tape measure after months of daily service in remodeling. The mechanism, tape, and mylar coating are also in very good condition after hard use. In response to a previous reviewer's concern about using the Fat Max in harsh weather, I use my tape regularly for masonry work and other tasks which expose the tool to moisture. I have yet to see signs of corrosion or deterioration of the mechanism. Worth the money, useful features, and tough as nails.

Excellent one man tool -- This is my second Fat max tape. Although they aredurable, at this price they are the most expensive construction 25' tape I've seen. I started out using the Craftsmen tapes because of the lifetime warranty. Doing siding, often by myself, I found the 11' standout to be extremely helpful. So now I have another one. It really does stand out 11' feet. That isn't just helpful when I'm up on a ladder trying to measure my next cut but it is also helpful when I'm on the ground and running the tape out to the end of a board. My craftsmen tape won't hold up past 5'. The end protector. It really helps. My first tape cracked at the 5" mark but I was able to use it another three weeks because the Mylar never gave way. It wasn't until most of the 5 was gone that I finally gave it up.

Now the bad. First price. I will only use this tape when the weather is dry. If I keep it dry and relatively clean it will last a lot longer. That just means on wet days I can't use it. Which during the winter time is often. Second, size. This doesn't fit in most standard tape holders. Although I was able to stretch my leather one out, now my back up tape just falls out. Oh well.

I consider this a great tool. I will continue to buy them even at this price. I guess I just need to make a little effort to take better care of them.

This tape takes top honors -- This tape is just the right feel in your hand and its wide blade makes it a winner. Once you buy one, you'll never go back to the flimsy little ten dollar tapes of the past. I am a carpenter and even at 25 bucks per tape which i payed when they were introduced I still think they are worth every single penny. A+ tape measure, couldnt ask for more, dont know what some of the lesser reviews were about- i'm a builder and give it two thumbs sky high. I also noticed this tape took top honors in fine homebuilding magazine.

Once again the folks at Stanley offer another fine FatMax product. I use this nearly daily! The 25' is the perfect size for everything I do. The 11' extension is very helpful when you're high-up on a ladder and need to measure across the room. This is a heavy item but fits well within the toolbelt. I've had it go flying off a ladder and survive the fall. The numbers are large and easily read. When my current one goes I will be back to buy another! Enjoy!
